Per Radio Times, Compston previously revealed that he is “absolutely delighted” to be appearing in the forthcoming drama. “The scripts are genuinely thrilling, packed with twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end,” the actor commented. With a brief runtime and a script that doesn't dig deep enough, both the drama and the scares are underserved. Despite some solid performances, the film's creepy setup never really pays off in the end, and any emotional buy-in requires an outrageous suspension of disbelief. Things get a little choppy with the introduction of hidden rooms and rumours of nasty foster parents, but the film never lags nor lacks visual interest and suspense.

I couldn’t understand the decision to “birdnest” rather than sell the house. Their disdain for the “studio” flat they share, an ex-local authority place with a drippy tap and non-fancy curtains that is far nicer than at least 70% of the flats I lived in in London, is hilarious. Per ITV’s synopsis, at first she thinks her home was sold by accident, but upon discovering her husband Bram has gone missing, she soon realised there’s much more going on. Told in a series of flashbacks, Our House is a story of betrayal and mystery and may just have you questioning your own memories. Created by David Shin, the series focuses on a prominent master fixer’s challenging life after learning that making a country stable is much easier than fixing broken family bonds. But there wouldn’t be a drama if they had sold up and moved on peacefully, accepting that their relationship had run its course. And maybe the mysterious grandeur of the house will be explained in the episodes to come.
There is an intriguing trail of breadcrumbs that hints at Bram’s ability to keep secrets. There are small fibs everywhere, and then, just when it appears to be a domestic drama with a property-porn twist, a bigger one explodes on to the screen. They attempt to separate in the least disruptive way possible for the sake of their boys by “birdnesting”, which involves renting a flat across the road, and taking it in turns to live in the house, so the children don’t have to move.
